Glossary · Off-site

Doorway page.

A page built only to catch a search and funnel the visitor elsewhere, usually one of many near-identical pages differing by a place name or a keyword. Google names the pattern in its spam policies.

Why it matters.

The test is simple: if swapping the city name in one page produces another page exactly, both are doorways. Legitimate area pages exist — they say something specific and true about the work in that place. The line is not the idea of a page per city; it is whether the page has anything of its own to say.

How to check it yourself.

Take two of your area pages and swap the place names. If you now have the other page, they are doorways, and consolidating them into one honest coverage page is the safer move.

you have a problem.

Most people asking about a rebuild do not need one. The free check opens your site, looks at how it behaves on a phone, whether it is secure and how old the page is, and tells you which of those apply to you.
