H1 heading.
The main heading on a page — the one that states what the page is about, in the page itself rather than in the browser tab.
Why it matters.
One per page, saying the same thing as the title tag in more natural language. 5,499 of the sites in our GTA survey have no H1 at all, usually because the design uses an image where a heading should be. It matters for search and it matters more for people using screen readers, who navigate by headings.
How to check it yourself.
Load the page and ask what the largest piece of actual text says. If the answer is "nothing, it is a picture", screen readers and search engines are both getting less than your visitors are.
