Glossary · Technical
Title tag.
The line of text that names the page — shown in the browser tab, used as the clickable headline in search results, and one of the strongest signals of what a page is about.
Why it matters.
For a local business it should say what the page offers and where, in that order, in about sixty characters. The single most common local SEO fault in our survey is a title that never names the city the business works in. Every page needs its own; a site where twelve pages share one title has told Google that it has one page.
How to check it yourself.
Search Google for site:yourdomain.com and read the headlines it shows. If several pages share a title, or none names your city, you have found an afternoon of profitable work.
