Glossary · Local search
Local citation.
Any mention of a business's name, address and phone number on another website — a directory, a chamber of commerce page, an association listing, a supplier's stockist page.
Why it matters.
Citations from places that genuinely relate to the business are worth having. Bulk directory submissions bought in packs are not: they add nothing and create dozens of records that will later be inconsistent when something changes. The useful ones are the ones a real customer might plausibly encounter.
How to check it yourself.
Ask where your customers already look — a trade association, a supplier's stockist page, the local chamber. One of those is worth more than a hundred bought directory entries.
Questions
What people ask us.
How do I check local citation on my own site?
Ask where your customers already look — a trade association, a supplier's stockist page, the local chamber. One of those is worth more than a hundred bought directory entries.
Your turn
Same check,
run on your site.
The check behind this page is the one we ran on every business above. Put your own address in and it will load your site on a phone screen, look at the certificate and the page age, and tell you what a visitor meets. No email, nothing stored.
Think yours needs
rebuilding?
Send us the address and what you do. We will look at what is there and tell you whether a rebuild is worth the money, or whether the problem is somewhere else entirely.
