Glossary · Off-site

Domain authority.

A score invented by SEO tool vendors to estimate how strong a site looks. Different tools produce different numbers, and none of them is used by Google.

Why it matters.

It is useful as a rough comparison between two sites in the same tool and useless as a target. Agencies quoting an improvement in it are quoting a third-party estimate, not a result. The honest measurements are rankings for terms that matter, enquiries received, and revenue.

How to check it yourself.

Ignore the number and ask a different question: which searches send you enquiries, and how many did you get? Nobody has ever been paid by a score.
