Glossary · Performance
Interaction to Next Paint (INP).
How quickly a page responds visibly after someone taps or clicks. It replaced First Input Delay in March 2024 as the responsiveness measure in Core Web Vitals. Under 200 milliseconds is “good”.
Why it matters.
Poor INP is almost always JavaScript: analytics tags, chat widgets, pop-up scripts and sliders competing for the main thread while the visitor is trying to tap a phone number. The fix is usually removal rather than optimisation — most of what is loaded on a small business site was added once and never questioned.
How to check it yourself.
Tap your own phone number link on the live site. If there is a perceptible pause before anything happens, something on the page is busy — usually a chat widget or a tag manager.

How do I check interaction to next paint (inp) on my own site?

Before you decide anything
Find out whether
you have a problem.
Most people asking about a rebuild do not need one. The free check opens your site, looks at how it behaves on a phone, whether it is secure and how old the page is, and tells you which of those apply to you.
