Web hosting.
The server that holds your site's files and answers when someone opens it. Shared hosting, a virtual server, a managed platform and a CDN are all different answers to the same question.
Why it matters.
For a small business site the important properties are uptime, how quickly the server answers the first request, and whether somebody keeps the software behind it patched. Price differences below about $30 a month mostly reflect how much of that last part you are doing yourself.
How to check it yourself.
Ask your host two questions: what the uptime was last quarter, and who applies security updates. Vague answers to either are the answer.
Questions
Before you ask.
How do I check web hosting on my own site?

on your address.
We do not guess and we do not send a report by email. Type the address, wait ten seconds, read what comes back. If your site is fine it will say so.
