Glossary · Conversion

Conversion rate.

The share of visitors who do the thing the page exists for — call, submit the form, book, buy.

Why it matters.

For local service businesses a few percent of visitors making contact is normal, and the number is far more sensitive to the page than to the traffic. Two changes move it more than anything else: making contact possible without a phone call, and answering the price question honestly rather than hiding behind “contact us for a quote”.

How to check it yourself.

Count the enquiries you received last month and divide by the visitors. If you cannot do that arithmetic, the measurement problem is the first thing to fix, not the page.

What people ask us.

How do I check conversion rate on my own site?

We do not guess and we do not send a report by email. Type the address, wait ten seconds, read what comes back. If your site is fine it will say so.
